Classic Monster Movie Night Invitation

A 5x7 invitation to a night of the old black-and-white horror pictures. A castle watchtower stands on a crag in front of a full moon, lightning forks down the left side, and the whole card is bound in a border of wound bandage. It belongs to the Universal Monsters Night party blueprint.

The Words

The quotation is the Count’s greeting at his door in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897), Chapter II: “Welcome to my house! Enter freely and of your own will!” It’s from the novel, checked against the Project Gutenberg text. Universal still holds a live trademark on the word “Frankenstein” for posters (USPTO), and the films are within the 95-year maximum term the Copyright Office gives works of their era, so the card uses no monster names, no makeup likenesses and no stills. The art is a castle, a moon, lightning, bats, bandage and lab glassware.

Printing Tips

Print at actual size on 110 lb cardstock and trim to 5 x 7. The dark version fills the page with ink, so use the light version for a long guest list and write the details in white or silver pen on the dark one. Mail it in an A7 envelope.
