What You'll Need To Use This

A 5x7 invitation shaped like a reservation confirmation. A tall hotel stands against the night sky with every window dark but one, the thirteenth, and the card below it confirms the guest’s booking at the Hotel Latecomer. It belongs to the Haunted Hotel party blueprint.

What’s Included

  • 5x7 invitation as a dark PDF, a light PDF for home printers, and a PNG for texting or email
  • Write-in lines for guest, arrival date, check-in time, address and RSVP, so it prints ready to fill in by hand
  • Two lines already filled in: Room No. “Assigned at the office,” since the room number is on the guest’s key tag at the party, and Departure “Not required”
  • A dress line: “Dress as you were when you last checked in,” with evening clothes, a travelling coat, a bellboy’s brass buttons, or a dust sheet as the options
  • A closing line for the host: “Ring the bell at the office”

The Words

The quotation is the landlord in M. R. James’s ghost story “Number 13,” from Ghost Stories of an Antiquary (1904), talking about the room his Danish hotel doesn’t have: “My Number 13? Why, don’t I tell you that there isn’t such a thing in the house?” It’s checked against the Project Gutenberg text.

The Hotel Latecomer is invented. We searched the USPTO’s trademark records for LATECOMER before using it and found only one cancelled registration, for wine, and no live marks (USPTO trademark search). No real hotel, hotel brand or film hotel is named or drawn on the card, and the art is our own.

Printing Tips

Print at actual size on 110 lb cardstock and trim to 5 x 7. The dark version fills the page with ink, so use the light version for a long guest list and write the details in gold or silver pen on the dark one. Mail it in an A7 envelope. For wording and RSVP timing, see our invitation etiquette guide.
